Osha is associated with protection, purification, and warding off negative energies, often used in rituals and ceremonies to create sacred space and clear the energy of a place, and to open the astral realms. Mentha (Mint) symbolizes abundance, prosperity, and vitality, and is used in spells and rituals for attracting wealth, success, and good fortune, while also promoting clarity of mind, intuition, and psychic abilities. Willow, the sacred tree of enchantment, intuition, and the moon goddess, is linked to healing, transformation, and renewal, and is used in rituals for invoking lunar energy, enhancing intuition, and connecting with the subconscious mind. These magical properties make Osha, Mentha, and Willow valuable allies in spiritual practices and rituals aimed at protection, prosperity, healing, and spiritual growth.

Smudging, an ancient ritual often involving the burning of sacred herbs like sage, cedar, or sweetgrass, holds profound significance for the soul due to its cleansing and purifying properties. The practice is believed to clear away negative energy, creating a sacred space for spiritual growth and healing. As the smoke rises, it is thought to carry away impurities, both physical and spiritual, allowing individuals to reconnect with their inner selves and the natural world. This purification process can help alleviate stress, anxiety, and emotional burdens, fostering a sense of peace and clarity that is essential for spiritual well-being.
Furthermore, smudging serves as a powerful means of connecting with cultural heritage and spiritual traditions. It is a practice deeply rooted in the customs of Indigenous peoples, where it is used to honor ancestors, seek guidance, and invoke blessings. By engaging in smudging, individuals not only honor these ancient traditions but also find a tangible way to express gratitude and reverence for the spiritual forces that guide and protect them. This connection to tradition and spirituality, reinforces a sense of identity and purpose, nourishing the soul and fostering a deeper understanding of one’s place in the universe.
Smudging with Sacred Herbs
Each herb has its own magical cleansing properties and here are the most popular, but there are so many more to choose from! My favorites are Palo Santo and Yerba Santa.
White Sage
White sage, is one of the most common herbs used for smudging. It is known for its strong, purifying scent and its powerful ability to cleanse negative energy. The smoke from burning sage clears out stagnant and unwanted energies, providing a clean slate for new intentions.
Smudging with sage is believed to help alleviate stress, improve mood, and enhance mental clarity, creating a sacred space for meditation and spiritual practice.
Sage with Rose
Combining sage with rose petals infuses the cleansing power of sage with the loving energy of rose. This blend is ideal for inviting compassion, love, and emotional healing into a space. The rose petals add a gentle, uplifting vibration that complements the purifying nature of sage, creating a balanced energy that is both protective and nurturing. Smudging with this combination is perfect for heart-centered rituals and fostering a sense of peace and well-being.
Sage with Lavender
Sage with lavender combines the potent clearing abilities of sage with the calming and relaxing properties of lavender. This duo is excellent for creating a peaceful and harmonious atmosphere, reducing stress, and promoting restful sleep. The lavender's soothing aroma works
in tandem with sage's purifying smoke to calm the mind and body, making it an ideal choice for evening rituals or preparation for meditation and relaxation.
Sage with Pine
Sage mixed with pine needles or resin provides a grounding and protective smudging experience. Pine is known for its ability to attract prosperity, health, and purification. This combination is particularly effective for grounding energies, enhancing mental clarity, and providing a strong, protective barrier against negative influences. Smudging with sage and pine is beneficial for creating a secure and prosperous environment.
Sage with Dragon’s Blood
Sage combined with dragon’s blood resin creates a powerful smudging blend that amplifies the cleansing properties of sage while adding the potent protective and amplifying qualities of dragon’s blood. Dragon’s blood is known for its ability to increase the potency of other herbs, providing a strong shield against negativity and enhancing spiritual work. This combination is ideal for deep cleansing, protection, and boosting the effectiveness of spells and rituals.
Yerba Santa
Yerba Santa, or "Holy Herb" is cherished for its healing and protective properties. It is used in
smudging rituals to foster love, growth, empowerment, and beauty. Yerba Santa is particularly effective for clearing emotional blockages and promoting spiritual strength. Its smoke is said to help with inner courage and emotional clarity, making it a powerful ally for personal healing and self-discovery.
Mugwort
Mugwort is revered for its ability to enhance intuition, dreams, and psychic abilities. It is often used in smudging rituals to promote clarity, stimulate visionary experiences, and protect against negative energies. The aromatic smoke of mugwort aids in connecting with higher spiritual realms and enhances meditation and dreamwork. This herb is ideal for those seeking to deepen their spiritual practice and intuition.
Cedar
Cedar has been used for centuries in various indigenous traditions for purification and protection. The smoke of burning cedar is said to carry prayers to the higher realms and invite the presence of beneficial spirits. Cedar is excellent for clearing negative energies, promoting a sense of safety, and bringing in a warm, comforting energy. It is particularly useful for grounding and balancing, making it a staple in many smudging practices.
Palo Santo
Palo Santo, or "Holy Wood"; has been used for centuries by indigenous cultures for cleansing,
healing, and spiritual purification. Its sweet, woodsy aroma is known to uplift and enhance the energy of any space. Smudging with Palo Santo not only clears negative energies but also invites positive, joyful vibrations. It is particularly effective for grounding and balancing energy, making it a favorite for everyday rituals and spiritual practice.
Sweet Grass
Sweet grass is considered a sacred plant by many Native American tribes and is often used in blessing ceremonies. Its pleasant, sweet aroma is believed to attract positive energies and good
spirits. Smudging with sweet grass invites a sense of peace, harmony, and positivity into a space. It is often used after other smudging herbs to invite beneficial energies in and seal the cleansing work.
Smudging Tools: Shell and Feathers
Using a shell to hold the burning herbs represents the element of water, while the herbs themselves embody earth.
The smoke created during the ritual signifies air, and the act of burning invokes fire.
Feathers are traditionally used to waft the smoke, guiding it towards the areas that need cleansing, thus incorporating the air element more actively into the ritual.
Another great tool is Selenite.
Selenite Is Fantastic!
Used by many for its powerful properties!
Selenite
Selenite is a powerful crystal known for its cleansing and purifying properties. It is often used to clear the energy of spaces and to charge other crystals.
Selenite can also be used to purify one's aura, removing energy blockages and enhancing mental clarity. Its high vibrational energy promotes peace, calm, and spiritual growth, making it an excellent tool for meditation and spiritual work.
Additionally, selenite can be placed in the corners of a room to create a protective grid, ensuring that the space remains energetically clear and harmonious.
An animal helper, also known as a totem animal or spirit animal, is a symbolic representation of an animal that serves as a guide, protector, or source of wisdom & inspiration in spiritual practices & beliefs. It is believed that each individual has one or more animal helpers that resonate with their personality, traits, & life path. These animal helpers offer guidance, support, & messages from the spiritual realm, helping individuals navigate life's challenges, tap into their inner strengths, & connect with the natural world. Animal helpers are often called upon in meditation, rituals, & ceremonies to provide insight, protection, & empowerment.
How to Connect
Animal Guides help us navigate life
By acknowledging and honoring our ancestral lineage, we open ourselves up to a wealth of knowledge, healing, and support that has been passed down through generations. Through magic, we can tap into this reservoir of wisdom and guidance, drawing strength from the experiences and teachings of those who came before us.
Connecting with our ancestors allows us to heal ancestral wounds that may still linger within us, providing an opportunity for healing and transformation on a deep level. By embracing our ancestral heritage, we can also explore and celebrate our cultural identity, gaining a deeper understanding of who we are and where we come from.
In addition to personal growth and empowerment, connecting with our ancestors fosters a sense of connection to the greater web of life. We recognize that we are part of a larger continuum of existence, linked to those who came before us and those who will come after us. This awareness can inspire us to live with greater purpose and intention, knowing that we are supported by the wisdom and love of our ancestors.
How to Connect
Earth and Sky Breath
Joining body and spirit
Close your eyes
Take three deep breaths, start to focus on your breath.
Tell yourself: "I am breathing IN" on the inhale
"I am breathing OUT" on the exhale.
While bringing your mind to this one focus and one intention, give yourself permission to let all other thoughts melt away. You are arriving in this here and now.
Do this for a few minutes, following your breath in and out. Letting your body breath you, letting it take as much oxygen as it needs, letting out all the carbon dioxide it can. Engaging the lungs, the diaphragm, the nostrils, the throat and listen to the breath. Feeling the oxygen move through your body, relaxing and healing.
Now imagine that you can breathe directly into your heart. Drawing the breath into the heart, it opens the heart space, each inhale opening the space farther and farther. The exhale releases whatever is no longer serving you. (This could be anything - mental, physical, emotional, spiritual)
Do this for a few minutes
Bring the focus of the breath into the center of the heart. Imagine a single point of light in the heart area, it may be green. From this light in the heart, breathe straight down and out of your body (from the heart chakra through the root chakra). Imagine the breath as a string of light that penetrates the earth and taps into her energy. Each exhale takes you a few inches deeper.
After 4 or 5 breaths imagine that you can take the string of light and scoop up the energy of the earth and bring it back into the heart space. This may look like a tear drop with its point in your heart and the bottom in the earth. Breathing down, releasing into the earth, Breathing up and bringing the earth up into your heart. Connecting the body to the earth, the earth to the body. Both the same. Feeling more and more present in your body as the breath continues.
After a few minutes bring the breath back into the heart and let it rest for one or two breaths.
Then reverse the breath, reaching now up through the crown to the energy of the sky. Exhale to the sky, to the energy of spirit, loop the breath around and bring it back into the heart. Here we are connecting to the energy of spirit, of our higher selves, to the Christ Consciousness. Bringing an awakening of our divine selves into the heart.
After a few minutes bring your intention back into the heart. After one or two breathes connect this breathing pattern together. Exhale down into the earth. Bring the earth up into the heart. Exhale to the sky and inhale the energy of spirit truth. Let this energy flow through you, looking like the infinity sign. Connecting you body and spirit. Coming into the balance of being a spirit expressing as a human being. Let the breath flow, finding it's natural rhythm. Faster or Slower. Letting it change during the meditation.
After many minutes of this, when you are feeling very full and relaxed, bring the breath back to heart center. Take a few breaths. Bring a breath down your legs and into your toes. Wiggle your toes. Pause. Bring a breath into your fingers and wiggle your fingers. Pause. Bring a breath into your head. Roll your eyes behind your eye lids - left than right. Tickle the roof of your mouth with your tongue. One more big breath fully aware of your body in the seated position where you started. Eyes Open.
